U2 Going For Glastonbury

According to the band’s leader Bono, U2 are glad and happy that they are honored the chance to headline Glastonbury Festival next year. The festival will be celebrating its 40th anniversary next year.

The band is expected to head the line-up during the Somerset show that is to be held on Friday 25 June.

The leader of the band, Bono, made it clear in one of his interviews that every member of the band is very happy and excited about such an event. This information he provided at the opening of an anti-Aids/HIV campaign.

For over 25 years, Glastonbury is going to be the band’s first performance at a festival. U2 will visit the UK during their flight in the middle of a North American tour.

This Monday the band’s leader visited central London in order to begin the campaign, called “Lace Up. Save Lives”. The campaign represents a joint project of Nike and the Red brand. Bono is a co-founder of the latter.

At the launch of the campaign that took place right before World Aids Day, Bono was supported by Didier Drogba, famous Chelsea striker. Other world famous celebs from the world of football also were present at the occasion.

This campaign offers people to purchase red laces in order to raise funds for AIDS treatment and implementing education programs in Africa.

Glastonbury festival will be held from 25—27 June next year. At this time South Africa will be hosting the 2010 World Cup.

So far, no other headliners apart from U2 have been announced. It is reported that David Bowie refused to participate. However, it is still considered to be likely that he will be seen there.

As far as the tickets for the festival are concerned, they are now not available any more, as they sold out last month not long ago after they went on sale.
