Roman Polanski, an Oscar-winning film director who is known for such movies as “The Pianist” and “Knife in Water”, is now house arrested in his sumptuous Swiss chalet. Recently he was freed from a jail and was placed on house arrest.

The famous filmmaker was thrown behind bars in Zurich on September 26, 2009, after an unexpected action arranged by prosecutors in Los Angeles and Washington. The authorities of Switzerland arrested Roman Polanski just as he arrived at the Zurich airport. A Swiss court on November, 25 approved the release of Polanski on bail of 4.5 million Swiss francs which is equal to $4.49 million. And after that Polanski was transferred to house arrest in the upscale ski resort of Gstaad on December 4.

The reason of the arrest was an international sexual assault of which he was charged more than 30 years ago. The world famous filmmaker was pleaded guilty of having illegal sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl at a Hollywood party. After that he had to flee to France in order to avoid the sentence in 1978 and since then has been living in exile.  Nevertheless, some countries still have an interest in this pending case.

While the authorities in California would like to make Polanski fly back to the U.S.A. in order to face justice, there are a lot of famous filmmakers who signed for support Roman Polanski. Among them we can name Woody Allen, David Keith Lynch, Wim Wenders, Martin Scorsese, Terry Gilliam, Pedro Almodovar, Darren Aronofsky and many others. Such famous film stars as Fanny Ardant and Monica Bellucci) also expressed their regret about the arrest of Roman Polanski. Meanwhile, even the victim, Samantha Geimer, forgave Polanski and did not think he should face further jail time.
