Actor/director Mel Gibson offers his sympathies publically to everything that Tiger Woods is enduring at the moment following the revelation of the fact that Tiger had been conducting numerous affairs even though he is a husband and a father. Gibson went through a media nightmare himself back in 2006 when he was stopped for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Gibson feels that all the media attention being expended on Tiger’s situation is detracting from some much more important national and global events. He sites an example of this by pointing out that there have been 30,000 more U.S. military trips being sent to Afghanistan, yet everyone is focused on Tiger’s inability to be faithful to his wife. At last count, 14 women had emerged claiming to have a current or past relationship with him during his marriage to Elin Nordegren, causing a media feeding frenzy that equaled some of the best.

Stating that he felt sorry for Tiger, Gibson also said that Tiger should just “take it like a man” rather than going into hiding. Gibson has some experience in doing just that. During his arrest in 2006, he made some anti-Semitic remarks that were leaked onto the Internet. When that happened, Gibson was forced to admit to belligerent behavior and apologize publically to the Jewish community. He did it, moved on, and survived it. So did his career.

Eventually, the media will get distracted by something else and take their focus off of Tiger Woods’ sex life. But until then, all Tiger can do is avoid the press as much as possible and, when he is caught by them, own up to making some life altering mistakes. He can take some cues from Mel Gibson and he just may survive this along with his career. Only time will tell.
