Famous movie director Martin Scorsese is to get the Cecil B DeMille Award. The reason for this is the director’s lifetime achievement. The ceremony will take place at the Golden Globes next year.

The 66-year old movie director, Scorsese, who is famous for such films as Taxi Driver and Goodfellas, will be awarded the prize at a ceremony that is to be held on 17 January next year.

This information was made known during a news conference and was told by the actress Vera Farmiga. She can be familiar to the audience by her starring in Scorsese’s movie The Departed. The film brought the director another Oscar.

The actress mentioned that Scorsese had the outstanding talent able to attract and make admire millions of people.

The award will be given to the legendary filmmaker as an appreciation of his invaluable contribution to the world of cinema.

According to Farmiga, Scorsese possesses a rare gift of rousing a crowd.

She claimed that the movie director regarded his work as holy and called cinema his shrine. Moreover, he is able to convey this message to everybody around him, be it the actors playing in his films, the crew assisting him in his work, or anybody else. He teaches that cinema is one of the most powerful tools.

Last year the DeMille award was given to Steven Spielberg. Warren Beatty, sir Anthony Hopkins and Michael Douglas are also the holders of this award.

Scorsese has been awarded Golden Globe as best director twice: for The Departed and Gangs of New York.

He has also obtained another four nominations for such famous films as Casino, Age of Innocence, Goodfellas and Raging Bull.

For the film Goodfellas that was released in 1990 he was nominated for the best screenplay together with his co-writer Nicolas Pileggi.

The next year’s ceremony will be hosted by the British comedian Ricky Gervais. The event will be held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
